Are we safe in our own bathrooms?

February 17, 2018

Over the years, I have found that a lot of people are worried about slipping or falling in their own bathrooms. You’ll be amazed to see that the statistics we have found will prove that right. There are roughly about 234,000 injuries in bathrooms ever year.

As you can see in the statistics, there are a lot of injuries among children, adults, and seniors alike.

It is not that all 234,000 people are not being cautious enough, but that sometimes that’s just how it is. The floors or bathtub could just be too slippery. When you add water, the danger becomes very real and obvious.

The scariest part of slipping and falling for seniors is that 1 out of every three seniors who live independently will experience a major fall every single year. And after such a fall they have to lose their independence. It gets worse too. 25% of seniors that suffer hip fractures die within a year.

There are a few precautions that can be taken, such as

  • Improving lighting

  • Adding a grab bar

  • Slip resistant shower/floor treatment

  • Slip resistant bathtub treatment

The beauty of nonslip treatments is that after them, your floor or bathtub looks exactly the same, which you’ll notice is you see and before/after pictures of them, but they will be much safer. They are rather cost efficient as well, because it prevents the expensive hospital bills that could follow from a major fall, or a lawsuit that your small business could face after someone falls on one of your bathroom floors.
